What types of veterinary services does Oakridge Equine Hospital provide?
Surgery: Arthroscopic, orthopedic, soft tissue, and laser surgery
Diagnostic Imaging: MRI, digital radiography (X-rays), ultrasonography, gastroscopy/endoscopy, dynamic endoscopy, and lameness evaluations

What conditions require MRI versus X-rays or Ultrasound for my horse?
The appropriate imaging test depends on the tissue being evaluated and the suspected injury.
X-rays are best for evaluating bones and joints.
Ultrasound is used to examine tendons, ligaments, muscles, and other soft tissues.
MRI provides detailed images of both bone and soft tissue and is especially helpful for diagnosing complex or difficult-to-localize lameness, particularly within the hoof.
During your horse's examination, our veterinarians will recommend the imaging modality that will provide the most useful diagnostic information.
Do I need a referral for equine advanced imaging services?
Not necessarily. While many of our patients are referred by their primary veterinarian, owners are welcome to schedule an appointment directly. If you are interested in an MRI, our veterinarians will first examine your horse to determine whether MRI is the most appropriate diagnostic tool.
Can I get a veterinarian out today for an equine emergency?
We do not currently provide ambulatory (farm call) services. If your horse requires emergency evaluation, please contact the hospital so we can discuss whether your horse should be transported to our facility or referred elsewhere if appropriate.
What qualifies as an equine emergency?
An equine emergency is any condition in which delaying veterinary treatment could threaten your horse's life, result in permanent injury or loss of soundness, or cause severe pain. Examples include severe colic, difficulty breathing, significant wounds, suspected fractures, severe lameness, eye injuries, and foaling complications. If you are unsure whether your horse is experiencing an emergency, we encourage you to contact a veterinarian immediately.
How far do your vets travel?
Our veterinarians provide services exclusively at Oakridge Equine Hospital. We do not currently offer ambulatory or farm call services.
Can I drop off or pick up my horse after hours?
Yes. We can arrange after-hours drop-off or pick-up by appointment. Please let us know in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements.
What do I need to bring if my horse is referred to the hospital for an emergency/hospitalization?
Please provide your horse's recent medical history, including when the problem began, how it has progressed, and any medications or treatments that have already been administered. If available, please bring or send copies of recent medical records, laboratory results, radiographs, ultrasound images, or other diagnostic information. Whenever possible, please have your referring veterinarian send your horse's records to us before your arrival. You will also be asked to provide ownership and emergency contact information.
What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, and CareCredit.
Do you offer payment plans or financing options?
We do not offer in-house payment plans. However, financing is available through CareCredit for qualified applicants.
